their lenses assure that i look lost in thought yet approachable...

i miss our regular seattle overcast summers. all my pictures look so washed out with all this damn sunshine. at least it hides my self-diagnosed double chin. i swear it's there!
i think nicole and i spent an hour musing on "steve" and how happy they make us. aren't they vomit inducingly adorable?
i almost quit my job today because of a nasty customer. she flipped out because i asked her to sign in for her service, just like every other customer. old snatch had a cow and started questioning my motives! she loudly proclaimed us to be outside of our rights and proceeded to berate me over every blank line asking for her info on the form. it was all i could do to keep from spitting in her face and screaming some addison dewitt-esque degradation at her before grabbing my purse and departing for good.
"You're too short for that gesture. Besides, it went out with Mrs. Fiske. "

i willed my blood to cease boiling and finally stared at her with pure hatred and self-restraint and said, "i just work here." god, that took so much to hold it all back. bitch.bottom line: it's hard to be menacing and condescending when wearing a purple terry cloth romper and bat headdress. i really gotta rethink my wardrobe.
just a week and a half* till i exhume myself from my plathian depression and isolation to go to automne's wedding. sasha - we're SO gonna have a slumber party afterwards! i'm so excited, just like jessie spanno!
* correction - TWO weeks! got a bit ahead of myself there!
peek!

she's filing her nails as they're dragging the lake

so now i'm pining for my 80s music crushes. everyone thought i was insane for finding elvis costello hot, but c'mon!that's kinda hot, no?
i also had a huge love for ian mcculloch from echo & the bunnymen.adorable.
and then there was flesh for lulu.
thank you, john hughes for introducing the world to one of their worst songs featuring lyrics such as:
"This city's mad in the head
And sick in the soul
All the stars flew away a long time ago
Isn't that nice
Like Miami Vice"

ew.

i had esther paint my nails yellow today with cheeky chops. mina said they'd look cute with polka dots and amanda hooked me up with these sweet edges. i'm all set to jump in that time machine and head back to the 80s!

i can bring my ipod, right?

today was blue chiffon and pearls.
everyone stares at me when i get to the airport. they need to chill.

you only live once so you gotta do what makes you happy even if that involves wearing vintage dresses and silver shoes with big blue bows.

..and her lovers walk through in their coats...

please stop licking your monitor. i know you all like duck, but that's going too far. guys have princess leia in a gold bikini and we have duckie dale.
i was listening to the psychedelic furs on the way home and i think i had actually forgotten what a cool song "pretty in pink" was. i mean, it has everything you could possibly want from an 80s new wave masterpiece: british accent, driving guitars , melodic keyboard undertones, insipidly oblique and yet awe inspiring lyrics... god, what genius.
and yet OMD's "if you leave" is the song everyone remembers from the film. "seven years went under the bridge, like time standing still." wtf? for some reason that line always pisses me off. mixed metaphors, anyone? not that i don't like the song, but that line always pissed me off and "pretty in pink" was a way better song. the things i ponder.

i found a bag of dry cleaning that had been sitting around for nearly two years and at the bottom of it was this dress. it's a trovata i picked up when i still had a job that paid. a lot. it's bias cut and very late 20s/early 30s inspired with incredible detail. i threw it in the dryer with a "dry cleaners secret" sheet and it came out fresh as a flower in half an hour.

my new boss told me i looked like a pirate. i stared at her blankly and finally, in a very cynical tone, stated that i was going for more of a flapper ensemble. droll. very droll.
things i accomplished in the last two days:
1. getting my ipod library transferred back onto my computer
2. getting the last 300 cds uploaded to itunes
3. getting so pissed off at my latest nancy drew computer game that i nearly threw my computer across the room
4. watching "torchwood: children of earth" (both discs) and "doctor who: planet of the dead" in quick succession
5. not much else

this is my own fault. i wished for employment and now i'm boring and lazy.

cutting my teeth on a razor

all anyone could talk about today was my giant bow. thank you, f21. who knew that $4.90 could generate so much enthusiasm? i guess your money really does go farther nowadays.
yesterday a thunderstorm shut the airport down for half an hour. it was gloriously beautiful yet i could never quite capture any strikes.

i was wearing the very first dress i ever bought from violet folklore. i love this dress!
last week i treated myself to my very own copy of "wristcutters" and i'm very very happy i did. if you haven't watched it yet, you suck.

the day after my birthday, i got in my car at 9:30pm and this was the temperature outside. today i wore a wool cloak. how quickly things change.
and this was my birthday party consisting of me, two bottles of wine and a taffeta dress.

but can i just tell you that i got the coolest presents ever? tine sent me a package full of goodies including 1920s looking blotting papers and my favorite tazo tea, nicole a got me the new "grey gardens" dvd with drew barrymore and jessica lange (which is, btw, amazing!!!!!), and nicole j sent me the WKAP alternate tracks and the dvd of videos. i have pictures of all of it and will fill you all in on why the blog disappeared in tomorrow's post.
i'm throwing my hat back in the dating ring. info to follow on that as well, although there isn't actually anything to tell yet.
can i just say how much i've missed blogging? what a crappy thing to be forced to give up even temporarily. i kept seeing stuff i wanted to take pictures of and write about and it felt like my hands were tied. yech.

and no, i never heard back about the job. what's even sadder is they hired a new manager at work and no, it isn't me. i'm scared of being unemployed again yet at the same time, i have so much stuff i'd love to do.

and guess what? i'm going to automne and graham's wedding!!!! yays!!!
'til we blog again, eh?
