i love my bed and my bed loves me!

i so could not get out of bed this morning. it was so comfy and there was a soft breeze blowing in the window and i knew i had a million things to do...

however lucy made it her mission to annoy the crap out of me until i had no choice but to get up and start the day. that's her hovering in the left side of the picture. i put a pillow over my face and she started walking on it! grrr...
but happily i got up, got going and completed this gorgeous custom headwrap for the beautiful nicolette. we discovered each other through the incredible sasha and amber of violet folklore fame and recently found out that we have tons more in common than just our mutual friends.
this headwrap is so cool! i love how it turned out and was a great project for my first custom order. i couldn't have asked for a sweeter and cooler gal to work with. yay us!
i was so inspired that i ended up sewing the whole day. i made this headwrap as well as upcycling a pink party dress, fixing a pile of slips whose straps popped off, and altering a crappy h&m dress into a mary quant inspired ipso facto-ish victorian 60s mini. they are such style goddesses, aren't they? plus their music is pretty damn good.
with inspiration like the ipso facto girls, the prospect of wearing black every day isn't so bad. yay lace doilies and crocheted collars!

driving lessons

i am shocked and dismayed at the amount of black clothing i own but at least it is there now that i need it. still, i yearn for color!
hopefully everyone reading my blog knows this but when you see a sign like this, you should start merging.
a sign like this means the same thing. if you're in the right lane, you gotta get out of it.

what is this strange habit people have of ignoring these signs? every day as i drive to work, i get at least one moronic imbecile who ignores the signs, keeps cruising in the right lane that is ending, and then speeds up and cuts me off. dumbasses! i really hate the ones who stay to the right even after the inner road line ends and hugs the exterior line like they had the right of way all along, as if their lane wasn't the one ending.

sorry, it just drives me up the wall. no pun intended.

and that's how pathetic my life is - my daily outfits are devoid of color and i write about bad drivers. wow.

i did have an airport employee approach me today as my manager and i were getting stock from our storage room. he said, "thank you for making the airport more beautiful."
i looked at my manager with a perplexed expression, turned back to him and asked how i did that.
"just by being here." he responded. i know, cheesy pick-up line, but it was still very sweet and made me smile. my manager snickered, "ooh, he was waiting for you to walk back by just so he could say that. someone likes you!" we giggled like school girls the rest of the way to the store.

that sweet sentiment made up for the TSA guy who asked what my outfit was supposed to be. i said, "this is just how i dress, thank you."
the jerk goes, "i didn't say i liked it, i was just asking." i gave him my pursed-lip-bitch grin and refrained from telling him off. wtf?

drunk is the new black

dude, where's my nose?
this is janice. she mistook sleeping pills for vitamin c and washed them down with champagne. sorry lady, we're not buying it.
if all the celebs are doing it, it must be cool.
so j-dick's pretty much confirmed as a new was-been and all, but wino and lilo are still redeemable, right?

and if their success is any measure of what can be accomplished under the influence, then pass me the bottle.in the spirit of getting my career going, dead kitty and i tried a little porch scootchin' last night.
it was all with the best of intentions, of course.

i'm all for scientific research. that's truly what this was. i swear!
hypothesis:
getting schnockered is a prerequisite for success.
research materials:
one suitcase of pbr
one large bottle of framboise lambic
one drinking buddy
one camera
twitter
results:
drinking buddy passed out after one swig (maybe a dead cat doll wasn't the best buddy in this case)
four horrible pictures
six stupid tweets with spelling and grammatical errors
one killer headache
one broken porcelain vase
intense sense of ennui
conclusion:
getting schnockered is a result of success as opposed to a prerequisite
yeah, i think i actually knew that before i started the experiment but i was very very bored and lethargic. next time i'll try sewing or painting or writing.

no, i'm not goth, just dressed for work. all black all the time. blah.

feelings, nothing more.

i'm having one of those days where i just feel crappy. if i didn't have to work, i wouldn't have even gotten up. yech. i'm still allergy saddled and my voice is disappearing from all the coughing and sneezing.

i went to get a hair cut, thinking it would boost my spirits, but the gal tried to just even out the edges with clippers. i made her actually cut it but that was like pulling teeth. i showed her how short i wanted it and she tried to say no. really? i asked for it to be just like the pictures, the same ones i brought in the last time, and she seemed shocked. lady, i know it's a $14 haircut, but the prime emphasis is on the word CUT!!! i finally gave up and ended up paying $14 for a light trim. i'll have to go back in two weeks to get it cut again. crap.

maybe i should get drunk tonight. i'm considering taking myself out and singing karaoke alone. can't be any more pathetic than sitting at home alone watching hitchcock and doctor who, can it?
pissy pissy fume fume. *grumbles*

6 and 60

i've been battling the worst allergies of my life this week - i'm sneezing and coughing (at the same time!) and nursing a sore throat but i managed to make it home for a birthday party yesterday.

my dad turned 60 on the 24th and xander turns 6 on the 29th so we had a fun little party for the two of them. xander gets another one on saturday, too.

when i got there, i was so tickled to see the badge xander made for himself and safety pinned to his shirt. it said "happy birh... xander" so i had to take a picture of it.

my sister keri and her husband showed up with ty who began trying to open every door and cupboard in the house. he always grins if i stick out my tongue at him!

as you can see, my mom prepared for this scenario by putting child locks on everything.

keri also brought assorted goodies from cupcake royale, my favorite place to get cupcakes!

after cupcakes and ice cream, the boys went out to xander's playhouse. it kinda makes me sick how precious they are.

sadly, my outside time kicked my allergies back into high gear. i ended up on the couch cough-sneezing my brains out! i was miserable as hell. my mom kept asking me if i was sure it wasn't swine flu.

xander felt bad for me so he dressed up in my clothes and ran around with skully over his face trying to make me smile.

we ended up watching "harry potter and the order of the phoenix" until i dozed off in a benadryl haze. i love my xander!

he and i have started this tradition of writing letters to each other that we read after i leave. he went to his playhouse to write my letter today.

with all the memorial day traffic, i had to leave earlier than planned today to get a ferry. had to work at 4! i sound like i've been gargling sandpaper but i made it to work and thank goodness i did. we were slammed and had a record setting day. yay us!

now i must rest. i'm hoping i can sneak in for a haircut tomorrow. i'm feeling shaggy.

fast times on the seatac shuttle

the parking lot for seatac airport employees is off site so we have to take a shuttle in to the airport. i'm not complaining - it's actually pretty amusing. also, it's nice to have my car in a secure lot with manned guard stations and pass key entry.

the shuttle is also a great place for people watching. on last night's shuttle, the girl across from me sat in a side facing seat in a short skirt with her legs splayed. the man next to me tried so hard to keep from looking at her crotch while the chick yammered away on her phone, but his eyes kept straying there anyway. he'd catch himself and jerk his head away from with a throat clearing "harumph." i did my best to keep from laughing.

the driver tonight was blasting the soundtrack from "the nightmare before christmas" and it seemed to make one of the older flight attendants very uncomfortable. i thoroughly enjoyed the music and her discomfort and could not hold back a smile while the little drama played out.

when i finally got to my car, i had an intense craving for magnetic fields. i put 69 love songs on shuffle and sang the whole way home.

weird phenomena that must be noted: when i opened the front door to leave for work this morning, i tripped over a coffee maker on my porch. it was one my sister sold at our yard sale last week. there was no note attached and to the best of my knowledge, this nice melita brewer works just fine. what kind of a person would do that? so odd. they'd better not come over and demand something from me. it was a yard sale, you putz! if it wasn't what you wanted, why drive over to my house and dump it? why not donate it to a charity? there are coffee deprived people in china, you know!

flight delays and cancellations serve me well

well, as long as there's a manicurist that's available they do!
the concourse was jammed when i got in to work today and alaska/horizon air customer service boasted a line that snaked through the terminal. that means stranded people right in view of our little shop! i barely had time to eat dinner while assisting them in purchasing product and signing up for mani/pedis. not that i wish such a fate on anyone, but it sure does keep me in a job.
i'm plumb worn and i gotta be back there early tomorrow. what ever shall i wear? the wardrobe limitations do pose a dilemma but it is one that i feel i am up to. and guess what? tomorrow is my first payday. yays!
i'm still short a bit for may's rent (yikes!) and i have to make a car payment AND renew my tabs so no shopping on my horizon but at least there's money coming in. and my UE hearing has been delayed so that money is still all tied up in legal crap. when does it end? c'est la vie, right? or as mehitabel would say, "toujours gai!"

back with a vengeance

yeah, it's been a while so this one is gonna be a bit looooooooong!
hmmmmm..... what have i been up to? lots and lots of work at the new job which is great, btw! butter london rocks my world. literally. now i just gotta convince the creative director, nonie creme, to make a doctor who nail polish. wouldn't "sonic screwdriver" make a great name for a nail lacquer?
i've been watching doctor who obsessively when i get home from work. i now have a favorite episode even. you all must watch "blink" from season three.
in my nerdy opinion, it ranks right up there with "hush" from buffy the vampire slayer as one of the best episodes of television ever created. even if you don't like the genre or doctor who, this episode must be watched. check out the preview!
i was also lucky enough to be part of the #lofnotc revolution on twitter on friday. thank you, miss afp!

saturday was the great yard sale and all in all we did pretty well. my sister made the most $$$ but at least we got rid of a ton of stuff. yay us!
sunday was the first time i got to visit jacob and my family in weeks! i crammed a lot into that day. the peahens were anxiously awaiting my arrival. the peacock was down the road somewhere screeching out his mating call. spring is in the air! it was a sunny gorgeous day in the mid 70s. xander and i wandered around in downtown port orchard and found this enormous cat lounging in the window of a closed store.we had to kill some time before the library opened. i let xander check out six books, all of which we read while i was over there.
i know it's mean, but these book titles (and covers) made me laugh nearly to death.note the bottle of whiskey on the table. classic!
jacob liked my dad has a disease best!well duh, of course its ok! couldn't you think of a better title?xander snapped a pic of me browsing through the picture books.
after the library, i took him to the log cabin museum. i would LOVE to live in this house!here we are at the organ.they had mannequins set up throughout the house to simulate the family that lived there. xander was pretty creeped out by them, especially the one in the bathtub.
after my xander time, i ran over to bremerton to visit jacob. we have become connoisseurs of bremerton graffiti. wtf?
we lounged in the grass by the fountains and talked for a while. he even let me read him some don marquis! we were wandering back to the car when we found this park that seemed to have dropped from the sky. we were down here in march and there was no sign of this place and suddenly its here. how?when i was a kid, this street was a row of bars, a tattoo shop, a mcdonalds and a woolworths with a soda fountain. it had (sadly) gotten pretty decrepit. this is a huge improvement.
this is jacob's "tourist" pose. it took him years to perfect it, you know.
the fountain emits a mist of cold water that was quite refreshing on my sunburned skin.
until i disappeared...this statue was melting down bullets, we think.
the details on her were amazing - folds on her clothing, bullets in her pocket. sadly, her face looked a bit inbred. i think i'll just adjust this valve while she looks away...
my parents and xander appeared on the street corner while we were picking on the statue. how funny that we all just ran into each other!
xander liked the new fountains but the mist scared him.
he was petrified while posing for this shot. i'm such a mean auntie!

jacob and i went out for a beer to cool down but i was attacked by a drunken old man who wanted to stroke my hair. yech! we ended up hanging out at his place and laughing at an early 90s catalog for the cognitively challenged.i wish i had taken pictures of it as it was riotously funny but hard to describe.
weekends have to end, as much as we wish they wouldn't. the week has started up again and i have to get going so i can get to work. since my life is getting back into a routine, i should be posting with more regularity. i swear i won't go this long between posts again. really!
'til next time...
