** this entry is dedicated to sweet darlene, a.k.a. victorian bustle, who is missing the snow terribly. if i could pack it up and send it you, i would. this was as close as i could come. hope it makes the holidays a bit whiter for you! **
but snuggling in bed with the puddy tats is so delightful! i walked down to starbucks for some liquid warmth and took lots of pictures along the way.
my street was literally abandoned. this is california avenue, the busiest street in west seattle! thank goodness people were staying off the roads. the snowplow crawled by as i got up further but it was still very treacherous.
the admiralty antique shop is seemingly never open but they did put up some fun holiday window displays. my grandpa had some fun light-up choir singers from the 60s in his store. when we were kids, they scared the heck out of us. now i'd kill to track them down. these reminded me of them.
i live about 12 blocks from starbucks but it took a while to get there. rebecca and stacie were bravely running the store by themselves since no one else could get to work. amazingly they were swamped. i sat down and worked on a dress until rebecca said HQ called and told them to close up shop. they asked if luna was open and i told them we never close since we all live so close to it. they wished me luck on the walk home and shooed the rest of the customers out the door.
i was so bundled up, i had to snap a picture. this is my dearest lilli ann coat, purchased at xtabay in portland in 2002. it has a full circle skirt and is made of the warmest wool known to man. my furry hat came from hattie's vintage, 1/2 block from xtabay. don't they make a great pair? for gloves, i wore antique black elbow length formal gloves that had belonged to my gr
andmother. she saved so much stuff and i'm so thankful i got most all of it. she was a classy broad!
starbucks disappeared from sight when i was only a block away due to the flurries of snow that were picking up in intensity. this was my last look at it before it was gon

i passed the antique shop again and fell in love with this old doctors bag. you can barely see it in the bottom right corner. too bad they charge 10x what their items are worth. maybe i can save up and get it someday.
linus and lucy usually beg to get outside but today, even my open invitation couldn't draw them out. linus meandered down the steps but ran back inside as soon as i opened the door. i loved how his polydactil toes made monstrous footprints in the drifts on the porch. they both ran upstairs and got into my bed as soon as i got my boots off.
now i'm craving soup and a sandwich. mmmmmmm... grilled cheese.... i'll have to raid bill's groceries but i'm sure he'll forgive me.
my mailman stomped up the walk with a big package for me. it was from madame fortuna! both pieces are stunning but i wore "sunday morning coming down" since it had the mini flask dangling down as the focal point. wearing it made me reminisce about those old st bernards in cartoons wearing the barrels of whiskey and bourbon out in the snow. if they'd had madame fortuna back then, they'd have looked much more chic!

you must have blown your white christmas our way, cause it's coming to Grass Valley as I speak! thanks for a fabulous snow-tour... you make City life seem so cozy and magical... and I love window shopping vicariously in a snowstorm. these are the true fruits of technology!!! (:
I am so so so grateful and thankful to you for posting this winterwonderland, your home. What a scene! You look like you stepped out of 1928! I wish hubby and I could be with you, or at least, near you so we too could revel in this snowy place!
Everytime you post pics, I just get all giggly thinking about how much fun it would be to hang out with you!
Thank you for this post. Honestly, it brought tears to my eyes. I love everything about it. And look at you in your Mme. Fortuna! Wowzers, hot!
P.S. The antique window display touches my heart so much!
sasha - keeping my fingers crossed that your mailman doesn't get waylaid by the weather! your lovely new dress should be there any day now. you better keep warm!
darlene, i'm so glad you enjoyed my snowy excursion. my toes were numb when i got back and linus is sprawled across my chest and right arm, begging me not to leave him again. i kept yanking out my camera thinking, "darlene would love this" or, "i bet darlene would want a picture of that."
i'm so tickled that you both enjoyed the windows at the antique store. don't they seem even more enchanting in the snow?
I love reading your blog Susie and this post is a perfect example of why. You're a very talented writer and I so appreciate that you share your life with us!
I have 6 kitties (yes 6!) so I also love reading about Linus & Lucy. I can totally relate to your kitty stories.
Also love the outfit! I'll be adding this one to my vintage photo album on my blog next week!
xoxo

thank you, tara! i adore my kitties so much, even though they follow me everywhere and talk talk talk. i stepped on linus in the kitchen while i was making tea tonight and he let out the most god awful pained scream i've ever heard. i felt horrible but he was back at my side (and underfoot) 30 seconds later. they are the best "gift" i ever got. aren't pets the neatest?
