i got this pirate hat a while ago on etsy and the foggy landscape seemed to be the perfect backdrop for it. besides - in fog this thick you gotta shield your hair from the soupy condensation. always try to be chic regardless of weather. (check out captain prue and first mate linus!)
the passionate peacock pirate tricorn: reneesance.etsy.com (this sweet seller's hats are super fun and eco-friendly! i heart her attention to detail and her prices and so so affordable.)
vintage three piece poly dot dress set: vintagevogue.etsy.com
vintage burgundy leather wilsons jacket: burien goodwill (i almost didn't buy this - so lucky it was still there when i realized my mistake!)
foxy vintage fur stole: grammie brinkerhoff
moving on gold compass on pearls necklace: who else? mmefortuna.etsy.com
bracelets: claires
black boots: palladium, zappos.com
(i didn't take any pics from yesterday as i was covered in yuck. our dishwasher broke and i helped out by [voluntarily] scraping plates so they could be washed by hand. i did wear an adorable dress from greybrocket.etsy.com which is currently soaking in oxy-clean. it also helps to explain my breakout-from-hell which i am attempting to cover with my hand in the second picture. i have some sensitive food allergies.)

oh my goodness oh my gracious.... you have SO many beautiful looks and you model them all SO well, I don't even know where to start with the compliments. People should pay you just to look at you! that's what I'm going to do... I'm gonna come up to Seattle with a collapsable circus tent and make a Classy Sideshow out of you: twenty bucks for a one minute peek at the best-dressed, most beautiful gal in the Pacific Northwest! step right up, folks... hair and makeup tips are extra...
by the way, I got a ticket to Amanda Palmer, too... it's so infrequently that I get to see a show of that caliber, living up here (except for our amazing local musicians, I am sure lucky for them!)... but bless her heart, she is coming to Sacramento, the "secondary market" not far from us that most big acts skip. Now the important question is what WILL I wear?!?!? Certainly can't overdress for this event.... what are YOU planning????
xoxo Sasha at Violet Folklore
you are the sweetest! thank you x one million! compliments like that coming from a one of the most stylish ladies i've ever seen make me glow. my head is swelling!
oh yes, the amanda palmer outfit... what is so weird is that my outfits for shows are influenced more by the musical instruments played by the artists than musical genres they are associated with.
i find harps ethereal so i wore feathered wings and layers of chiffon to joanna newsome. the judy! judy! judy! style of rufus wainwright's show (the recent solo tour - just him and the keys!) found me wearing a puffy betsey johnson dress with ribbons on my hair and neck, tons of black eyeliner and my turquoise rainboots. feeling kinda cabaret...
the amanda ensemble is coming together slowly but surely. i'm making a layered and bustled dress from a slip and several crocheted tablecloths. the whole thing will be ivory, partially influenced by her stint as the twelve foot bride in boston, partially because black makes me feel conflicted. i'm strangely influenced by colors around me and since i imagine most people at the show will be in black, the ivory will help to keep my chakras in line.
i'm thinking i'll wear my red riding hood plaid cloak over it since it's wooly and warm and folds up small so it can be tucked into a medium sized purse. there is way too much planning going into this! truth is i rarely get an evening out because of my leg so when i do go out, i go ALL out.
oh - i am so all for the circus tent and the lovely sasha as my midway barker! could i sit on a swing inside a birdcage like louise brooks in "the canary murder mystery" or edith massey in "female trouble"? edith massey...
OMG. I am speechless. You look perfectly at home in this neo-Victorian meets 70's meets pirate ensemble. You took my breath away when I blew up the pic! DAMN! You are perhaps the most picturesque old-hollywood meets Bourbon Street siren that I've laid eyes on in a very long time!
Seriously, in all honesty, S... I would love to hang out with you for a day and just be in your presence. No doubt I would be inspired enough to put oil to canvas and paint a masterpiece. (I haven't felt like painting in a very, very, long time.
I love you Miss Prue, and lil' Linus too!
